Humanitarian Engineering requires a very different approach both in preparation and delivery. In the UK we have some cross-over from Local Authority Emergency Planners as they look at providing for the public during times of emergency here in the UK.
We use our experience of engaging with communities across the world and adapt the solutions according to the ‘local’ context. We have found that ‘dragging and dropping’ solutions from the 1980s into the 2000s simply does not work. This is especially true of the UK context where low frequency high impact events are little understanding with devastating consequences.
We have experience across Europe, sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and Sri-Lanka. One size does not fit all; we teach and train.
